Kevin Hamlin to Drive the No. 81 Under the Lights at Famed Darlington Raceway for MacDonald Motorsports
Darlington, S.C. (May 7, 2009) – MacDonald Motorsports announced that Kevin Hamlin will drive the No. 81 D.H. Griffin Dodge for the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 at Darlington Raceway.
Historic Darlington Raceway, known for the famous “Darlington Stripe”
where drivers beat and bang their way around the 1.366 mile oval, is celebrating its 60th year of racing in 2009. Known as the track that is “Too Tough to Tame,” drivers respect the track’s unique design.
“I’m excited to get back to Darlington, it’s a great track with great history and significance,” Hamlin noted about this weekend’s race at Darlington. “I’m looking forward to representing D.H. Griffin again in the MacDonald Motorsports Dodge Charger.”
Hamlin’s NASCAR career began in 1998 competing in the NASCAR Northwest Series. In his first five years he collected 12 wins, two championships in
2001 and 2002, and was named “Most Popular Driver” in both 2001 and 2004. In 2005 Hamlin was signed as a developmental driver for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and is now a test driver for Earnhardt Ganassi Racing. In 28 NASCAR Nationwide Series starts, the Snohomish, Washington native has recorded two top 10 finishes and a career-best Nationwide Series finish of seventh in 2007 at Gateway International Speedway.

The No. 81 Dodge Charger fielded by MacDonald is currently 25th in owner points following last week’s race at Richmond, just 73 points out of the top 20.

The one day event for the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Darlington Raceway begins with practice on Friday at 8:30 a.m. ET, qualifying will be shown live on SPEED at 3 p.m. ET.
